London Wedding Photojournalism

Day One: Old Marylebone Town Hall

Day Two: Number 4 Hamilton Place, Mayfair

Diane and Shri split their London wedding over two days so it had a really nice and relaxed pace. There was no rushing around, no stress, no pressure, everyone just settled in and enjoyed themselves. As with many of my documentary weddings in London, Shri and Diane invited only their very closest family and friends.

Their first date involved a visit to Old Marylebone Town Hall - a venue I know very well indeed and am particularly fond of not least because of the professionalism and open mindedness of its registrars. In fact, they put many of the country's registrars to shame; often no photography is allowed to take place and the reasons behind this seem to change depending on who you talk to. It's a great shame as essentially they're just a supplier and yet they stamp their impersonal touch on the day. It's out of touch and unbelievably conceited - exactly the kind of behaviour that you wouldn't expect on a wedding day. When you make your enquiries be sure to research into your registar's policy on photography.

After the civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall we all walked ten minutes down the road to a fantastic Chinese restaurant on Baker Street called Bright Courtyard - a place I will certainly be frequenting. My coverage ended with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony.

Two days later we all met at Number 4 Hamilton Place in Mayfair. Number 4 is a stunning building as you'd expect, with a large sweeping and central staircase leading into impressively grand yet intimate rooms, it's also the home of the Royal Aeronautical Society. This was more of an intimate dinner party than a wedding reception which I understand is exactly what Diane and Shri had in mind. The evening went without a hitch with some particularly emotional speeches before, during and after the meal.

I feel privileged to have had the chance to work with and get to know Diane and Shri as well as their delightful family and friends.

Below are just a few of favourites from both days.
