Monkey Island Wedding Photographer
As it's name suggests, Monkey Island is a very unique wedding venue located half way between Maidenhead and Windsor on the river Thames and accessed by footbridge or boat and an interesting location for your wedding photography in Berkshire.
After the Great fire of London in 1666 the heights of various islands along the Thames were raised by barges dumping rubble cleared from the city on their way back to load up with Oxfordshire stone.
This four acres of tranquil island has a 26 roomed hotel incorporating the first buildings to be erected there in the eighteenth century by Charles Spencer who bought the island in 1723. He was an avid angler and built the fishing lodge, using wood blocks cut to imitate stone, and the fishing temple, which was open on the ground floor to look like a market; they became known as Marlborough's follies. When he died the island lease was sold and the island was later developed into a leisure destination in the 1840s.
The River Room was developed in 1963 to increase the dining area which can seat 120 wedding guests. This fabulous glass walled wedding venue, which hangs over the Thames and has a glazed ceiling, is licenced for civil wedding ceremonies in Berkshire. Flooded with natural light, this is a perfect room for acquiring great candid wedding photography in Berkshire.
The Temple Room is Grade I listed and was the original fishing temple. The open ground floor has been given walls but the original pillars are a feature of the room. It is licenced for 20 wedding guests. The first floor of the Temple was designed as a billiards room and is still as it was with panelled walls and a blue and white ceiling, which was originally gilded, depicting Neptune, mermaids and seashells. The Temple was extended in the 1970s to provide 26 bedrooms.
The Pavilion Dining Room is the second Grade I listed building on the island and was the original fishing lodge with wonderful up stream views of the river. It has a civil wedding ceremony licence and can accommodate 120 wedding guests but can only be used for dining if the island has been booked for exclusive use. The Monkey Room's ceiling is decorated with eighteenth century paintings of monkeys in human poses attributed to Andre de Clermont.
The Garden Room is on the ground floor and is privately accessed. Licenced for 40 it overlooks both the river and attractive gardens.
Marquee on the Lawn can accommodate 120 wedding guests.
Peacocks have made the island their home, as have rabbits and ducks of course, and together with the island's location, is conducive to a successful wedding party and superb photojournalist wedding photography in Berkshire.
The in-house wedding planners will help you to make the most of this self contained venue from being able to hire for exclusive use, which includes bed and breakfast, for a twenty four hour period, to a more intimate ceremony.
