Babington House Wedding | Alex & Max

Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with the very lovely Alex and Max from LA at the incredible Babington House in Somerset.

They'd planned everything from California with the help of the exceptionally talented team at Babington. This included a beautiful rehearsal drinks party on the Sunday within the walled garden at Babington and where everyone was treated to some particularly warm and characterful afternoon sun. This was shortly followed by several touching speeches and a meal in the main house.

Their main wedding day, which was nothing short of stunning, took place the very next day. It rained heavily on the day and admirably, Alex and Max both wanted to push ahead with the outdoor service they’d planned for and I'm so glad they did.

It was a truly amazing and memorable ceremony with Max’s dad acting as the celebrant. Guests huddled under umbrellas, even the string quartet playing under a couple of parasols. The atmosphere was palpable and I always become exceptionally aware of just how privileged I am to have been trusted to document such a personal event when things are so emotionally charged.

The resulting images are some of my favourites created during the 2019 season to date.

Once the ceremony was complete it was straight into party mode with some unforgettable video messages from Snoop Dogg, Chuck Liddell and Ron Jeremy - an incredible gift from the groom's friend. Some exceptionally heartfelt speeches during the meal (in fact I think there were around 12 speeches over the two days!) and a proper knees up on the dance floor.

Babington House Wedding | Georgina & Anand

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Georgina and Anand, together with their lovely family and friends, over three days of celebrations at Babington House in Somerset. Georgie planned the entire thing from New York, which, factoring in time differences and work commitments, is no mean feat!

Day one involved sensitive photography of a very intimate Hindu wedding ceremony and meal with the couple’s nearest and dearest.

Working with Allister was just an absolute joy and we really could not have asked for a better photographer to capture our wedding celebrations. We think what makes him stand out above the rest and the reason we fell in love with his work, before we even saw our own pics, is that he captures not just what is happening but how it feels when it is. When we shared the pics with my mum, she had a simple statement which captures his magic; "there were so many moments I didn't even know happened until I saw his pictures - he just captured the heart of the day in all its smallest moments'“.

Day two was the civil ceremony element, with the marriage taking place on the beautiful lawns at Babington House. This was swiftly followed by a charming champagne drinks reception, speeches and dancing.

We were nervous about wedding photography, the fear of loving the day and then not the pictures. How wrong were we. You cannot dislike real and Allister captures authentic, honest and vulnerable emotion. When we poured through the pictures, it was like we were reliving the most intimate and meaningful parts of our wedding. Allister blended into the crowd, silently and quietly creating his art and we are so lucky to have found him. These aren't pictures - they are memories and he managed to capture the entire spirit of the wedding.

The following day I documented a short wedding brunch and heartfelt speech from Georgie’s brother, accompanied by all of the guests that stayed at Babington the previous night. Within a couple of hours, everyone was sending off the couple to their amazing honeymoon in Capri, Italy!

It is also worth mentioning that he effortlessly navigated timeline, events and families and really listened to our concerns, questions and comments! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We cannot recommend him more highly - we have a sneaking suspicion this will not be the last thing he photographs for us and our wider family. We would be honored to work with him again.

Babington House Wedding | Oxana & John

Oxana & John’s wedding was a genuinely beautiful wedding day.

Oxana’s immediate Russian family attended the wedding and, despite the evident language barrier, blended so well with John’s English family and friends.

It was incredibly touching to witness and document Oxana’s strong bond with her father throughout the day, I’m particularly fond of the images created during their emotional walk down the aisle to meet with John as well as her father’s speech, who doesn’t speak a word of English, being translated by the Oxana’s brother.

As a documentary wedding photographer, I always look to photograph the atmosphere of a day as authentically as possible, this includes honestly depicting characters and relationships in my work, meaning any perceived language barrier was simply irrelevant.

All preparations, the ceremony and the reception took place on the gorgeous grounds of Babington House, a Soho hotel and members' club nestled in the heart of Somerset and a particularly favourite venue for me having shot some of my most memorable weddings there in recent years.

I enjoyed every minute of working with these lovely families, below are just a few of my absolute favourites from the day.
