Favourite 2016 Moments

What an amazing year it’s been!

It’s taken me a while to reduce my favourite images from the year to manageable size. There are just so many moments I’d like to share from 2016. That said, I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity and the whole ‘less is more’ approach, so I’ve only featured my absolute favourites.

My year reduced to just 70 images.

I’ve worked with some amazing couples and families right across the UK and Europe this year and I’m continually humbled by the personal moments I get to witness.

Through my documentary wedding photography I get to relive each and every wedding during this selection process, one of the reasons I find compiling these collections at the end of each year so rewarding. It reminds me of why I do what I do.

To all the lovely brides, grooms and families who have given me the responsibility of photographing for them this year - a very humble thank you. It’s been a genuine privilege to work with each and every one of you.

This will be my last blog post before Christmas, my next feature will be to introduce my 2017 portfolio which is due to launch the first week of January.

So… have an amazing Christmas and New Year!

Here are my absolute favourite 70 photographs from 2016.

Wedding Photography In Shropshire | Amy and Thom

I spent ages looking for a wedding photographer to document our wedding, Amy left this task to me as I was being quite particular!

There are so many people out there with thousands of pounds worth of gear but have no idea what so ever!

It's a minefield.

I stumbled upon a photo of Allister’s on google images and traced it to a blog, then traced the blog article back to Allister’s website - which is a treasure trove of great documentary wedding photography, captured so carefully. I showed Amy Allister’s website and her eyes lit up, she finally understood why I was being so fussy!

We didn't get the chance to Allister before the day but our phone calls and emails were more than enough to keep us assured we’d made the right decision. Sure enough on the day Allister was exactly as promised; everywhere at once but nowhere at all - capturing every little moment and detail that would otherwise have slipped by.

Neither of us like the idea of posed wedding photography, or even having our photos taken at all. What we wanted was for someone to document the day and capture the true 'us' without having to try and orchestrate things. Allister gave this to us in spades and we are so so happy with the results.

He also stepped in to give us a helping hand where needed; we spent ages trying to keep the day from feeling too formal, we wanted it all to be really laid back so that everyone could just relax and be themselves. The problem with this is that we weren't particularly organised! Allister would come out of nowhere to the rescue and without that it would probably have been a bit of a mess! So thanks for that!

We can't thank you enough Allister. We'll treasure our wedding photography for years to come.

Asian Documentary Wedding Photography | Niranjali & Zain

I first met Niranjali & Zain at their engagement shoot at Pennyhill Park in Surrey, it was the perfect opportunity to get to know one another but to also run through the wedding schedule for their civil ceremony held here later in the year.

They've been such a great couple to get to know over this last year, just so much fun!

Niranjali & Zain's London wedding reception took place the day after the ceremony at The Grand Connaught Rooms. Where Pennyhill Park excels with its beautiful outside space, the interior of the Grand Connaught Rooms is nothing short of breathtaking, with the main function room having a true wow factor!

I always request feedback from my couples following the wedding. Photography is such a subjective subject and so I place great importance on this part of my process. Below is Niranjali & Zain’s feedback.

Allister,

Thank you so much for these stunning photos which truly have exceeded all our expectations. From start to finish, our whole experience of working with you has been an absolute pleasure and culminated in three sets of photos which we will treasure forever. In all our communications and interactions (from our first email and phone conversations, pre-wedding shoot, the wedding itself through to receiving these photos) you've been a consummate professional; punctual and organised at all times. Your flexibility in accommodating our relatively atypical set of wedding celebrations was so greatly appreciated.

On each day, you were a dream to have around - so easy to get on with and a very calming influence. You were discreet and unobtrusive, which made it all the more incredible to see the amazing shots you managed to get despite being seemingly invisible, clearly a testament to your immense skill and talent.

You came highly recommended and we had seen so many beautiful shots on your website, but you still managed to blow us away with your photos and the slideshow. The way you captured the spirit and emotion of both days is unbelievable, and we're so grateful to have these beautiful photos to capture the memories of an unforgettable couple of days. We really can't thank you enough for everything.

Thanks again!

Zain and Niranjali
